Flutivate cream is a topical corticosteroid known for its anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive effects, similar to other topical corticosteroids. The precise mechanism behind the anti-inflammatory action of these steroids remains uncertain.
Nonetheless, it is believed that corticosteroids work by promoting the production of lipocortins, which are inhibitory proteins for phospholipase A2. It is suggested that these proteins regulate the synthesis of powerful inflammation mediators, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, by blocking the release of their common precursor, arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is released from membrane phospholipids through the action of phospholipase A2.
The active ingredient in the formulation is Fluticasone Propionate.
Flutivate cream is indicated for treating eczema, psoriasis, allergies, and rashes.
Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and gently massage it in, typically 1-2 times a day or as directed by your healthcare provider.
Use the cream as soon as you remember if you miss a dose.
The application of topical corticosteroids may lead to reversible suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, which could result in glucocorticosteroid deficiency following discontinuation. Some patients may experience Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria due to systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids during treatment.
Possible side effects of Flutivate cream include stinging, burning, itching, irritation, dryness, or redness on the skin, which may occur upon initial application and generally resolve within a few days.
Store this medication at room temperature, ensuring it is kept away from moisture.
